Responsibilities

Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a 495‑bed system serving Amarillo and the surrounding region. The organization seeks health professionals who are dedicated to exemplary patient care and personal excellence. Job title: Charge Nurse. POSITION SUMMARY: Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families. Coordinates multi‑disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff to achieve safe, optimal health care outcomes. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of patient centered care provide the foundation for all nursing care, and Service Excellence standards are demonstrated at all times.
PROVISION OF SERVICES
Develops, implements, and evaluates an age‑appropriate plan of care using the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Assesses patient safety risks and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with applicable standards as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. Adheres to safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co‑workers, patients, and visitors. The patient centered care delivery model provides the foundation for all nursing care.
LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE
Utilizes appropriate leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance. Demonstrates initiative, collaboration, and sound judgment in day‑to‑day management at the unit level.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Manages department outcomes for patients, families, peers, employees, and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to issues. Accounts for appropriate staffing per shift based on patient census, acuity, and available resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Graduate of an accredited or NLN‑approved RN program
Must successfully pass any pre‑employment assessment(s)
BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification
Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas
De‑escalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintaining
Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility
