Locations at Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; Rochester, Minnesota; and other Mayo Clinic Health System campuses.
Responsibilities
Histotechnician II will process surgical pathology specimens, including processing, embedding and microtomy of all surgical tissues; cryotomy and frozen section staining; routine H&E and special staining; high complexity testing such as immunohistochemistry; gross examination/tissue processing of surgical biopsies; equipment maintenance and record retention; training staff; knowledge of pathology Laboratory Information System and other duties as assigned.
The position may involve travel between the Scottsdale and Phoenix campuses. They will perform high volume automated immunohistochemical (IHC) staining; make up reagents, antibody dilutions; assist in IHC and special stain procedure development; record QA information; and train Histotech IS in IHC. Additional responsibilities include procuring control tissue material and monitoring control slide supplies as well as QC and validating slide quality and stain efficacy. Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills, knowledge of principles of growth and development, assess data reflect patient age-specific needs, effective communication, and multitasking. May be responsible for handling chemicals and reagents including hazardous waste.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in histology, biology or related; minimum 1 year histology experience; or Associate of Science; minimum 3 years experience; or meet CLIA-88 regulations for high complexity testing with minimum 5 years experience. Three years immunohistochemical staining experience within the last 10 years strongly preferred.
Additional Qualifications
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills. Demonstrated good judgment when dealing with procedural and technical issues.
