Description
This Highway Guardrail Installer position requires performing a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies and procedures, and safety guidelines. This position requires a valid driver's license.
Essential Job Functions
Reading of plans and schematics.
Layout of Highway Guardrail.
Handling and installing all of the materials for guardrail installation.
Loading and unloading materials on a flat‑bed truck and/or trailer by hand, digging holes, using power tools, etc.
Operation of Post Pounder/Driver Truck.
Drive long distances to deliver materials to job sites in a timely manner.
Load, unload and record cargo deliveries.
Maintain paperwork.
Refuel and clean vehicle.
Inspect trucks and record issues.
Report road incidents to the dispatcher and report mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
Follow traffic laws and accident procedures.
Plan routes using GPS system.
Desired Qualifications
3‑5 years guardrail installation experience.
Proven work experience as a truck driver with extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
Hands‑on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB, etc.).
Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.).

Requirements
Must possess a current and valid driver's license; will require passing an MVR and a controlled substance test; may require background and criminal record check.
Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day, standing and walking for extended periods, loading and unloading equipment, and lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
Ability to work from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds.
Operating hand/power tools; manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smartphones; physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively.
Working outdoors and safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions, including high‑speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances.
Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones; maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction sites, including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities.
Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans.
Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone.
Communication skills: both written and verbal; ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor.
Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule; working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees.
Must maintain company standards post‑employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing.
