The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System seeks a Dental Assistant to serve as a Fee Basis employee on an as‑needed intermittent basis. Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States
English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)
Experience and Education:
Six months of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work (or provides familiarity with the work)
Successful completion of a 1‑year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying
Certification and Radiology Standards:
Public Law 97‑35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75
Must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in this regulation and be certified as radiographers in their field
Radiologic Competence: Successful completion of the Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board – Inc, or successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinations developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry, or successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD)
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, moving between rooms and workstations, and sit for an hour or more during procedures
Must have stamina to stay physically active for several hours, handling tasks that involve bending, squatting, and reaching
Requires precise repeated movements of the hands and fingers to handle delicate dental instruments and equipment
Manual dexterity is crucial for tasks such as preparing dental materials, operating equipment, taking X‑rays, and assisting in procedures
Acute vision necessary to observe patient responses, see fine details of dental materials, assess colors and shades, and monitor instruments
Sufficient auditory ability is required to communicate with patients and the dental care team
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
