Job Description
Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age‑and developmentally‑appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
Provides patient/family centered care using the nursing process and focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes assessment, development of nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, health teaching and promotion, and evaluation of goals and interventions consistent with the policies of MUSC.
Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, and professional behavior.
Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model. This includes shared governance participation, adherence to standards of care, peer review, professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice, and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking.
Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient‑care services through the application of care management principles. Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.
Minimum Training and Education
Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. Registered nurses hired on or after July 1 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification. Refer to policy A141 for details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outside (temperature extremes), from elevated areas, in confined spaces, from kneeling positions, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, using fingers and hands for gross and fine motor tasks, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, using both legs for balance and coordination; lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted, lift/lower 50‑lb objects from/to 36 inches, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs, exert up to 50 lbs of force. (Includes continuous, infrequent, or frequent as applicable.)
Maintain 20/40 vision (corrected), depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing acuity (corrected), ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex‑safe environment.
