Summary
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director. Provides professional nursing care to patients assigned to a specific Nursing Unit. Provides patient care within the parameters of this assignment of responsibility, according to prescribed, delegated medical regimen and the hospital policies. Incumbents are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
Responsibilities
Education & training: participates in identifying and meeting learning needs, attends education programs, uses patient education materials, assesses readiness to learn, and assesses developmental level and factors affecting learning.
Evaluation of care: identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance as needed, participates in discussion with the interdisciplinary team, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation: demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, utilizes organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures, prioritizes care, and consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues.
Leadership: develops goals to promote professional growth, achieves objectives within identified time frames, facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities, promotes cost‑effective care, and gives feedback to co‑workers.
Patient assessment: recognizes data from complex situations, synthesizes assessment data, anticipates discharge needs, and builds relationships with families that promote their advocacy for patient and their own needs.
Planning: collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, uses available multidisciplinary resources, and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning.
Research: reads relevant journals and brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Education Requirements
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
BCLS certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
Two years of nursing experience as a dialysis nurse required.
