
Part-time Research Technician I

The Ray Lab at the Benaroya Research Institute is seeking a part-time Research Technician to provide essential laboratory support for biomedical research projects. This role supports both routine and specialized experimental work in a collaborative research environment focused on understanding immune function and disease mechanisms.
Hours: 20 to 25 per week.
Responsibilities
Prepare laboratory reagents, chemical stocks, culture media, and cell lines following established protocols
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including spectrometers, electrophoresis systems, radiation counters, PCR machines, and other analytical instruments
Perform chemical, physical, and biological assays in accordance with written experimental procedures
Work with mouse models as needed, including immunizations and surgical procedures when applicable
Process and fractionate blood samples using sterile technique
Prepare tissue and cell samples for light and fluorescent microscopy
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including data entry, photography, and documentation in laboratory databases and notebooks
Conduct literature searches and review scientific publications relevant to ongoing research
Assist with laboratory organization, inventory management, and preparation of purchase orders for supplies and equipment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a scientific or related field required
Basic laboratory skills and prior experience working in a research laboratory preferred
Strong foundational skills in data recording, basic mathematics, and computer-based data entry and analysis
Experience with mammalian tissue culture and multiparameter flow cytometry preferred
Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols and maintain accurate scientific records
May require experience or willingness to learn animal handling and surgical techniques depending on project needs
Compensation
$24.05 to $34.15 per hour
