Responsibilities
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the peri‑operative patient in accordance with the plan of care, hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care. Communicate findings to appropriate persons and document them in the patient’s medical record. Oversee the care and services provided by ancillary and other professional personnel. Manage supplies and equipment within the unit. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians and interdepartmental personnel. Participate in marketing of operating room services to the medical staff. Maintain a competent peri‑operative skill level to ensure safe, quality patient care sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and co‑workers. Provide professional nursing care tailored to age‑specific and cultural diversity needs. Ensure appropriate and effective pain management. Assess, report, and assist patients presenting with evidence of abuse or neglect. Support the mission of Mercy. Ensure compliance with Mercy Hospital safety and infection control policies and with the hospital’s philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
