A Brief Overview
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist I (NPDP I) is a registered nurse who provides educational expertise and fosters professional growth within the organization. The NPDP I serves as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions, ensuring clinical competence and compassionate, evidence‑based nursing practice.
What You Will Do
Learning Facilitator:
Apply adult learning principles to design, implement, and evaluate educational plans that bridge learning gaps identified through needs assessments.
Change Agent:
Implement change management strategies to transform processes at micro, meso, and macro levels.
Mentor:
Support professional development of peers and emerging practitioners through coaching and guidance across settings.
Leader:
Influence interprofessional learning environments and advance the NPD specialty.
Champion for Inquiry:
Promote evidence‑based inquiry and dissemination of new knowledge to improve care quality.
Advocate for NPD Specialty:
Represent and advance NPD as a nursing practice specialty.
Partner for Practice Transitions:
Facilitate smooth transitions of nurses and staff across roles and learning environments.
Core Responsibilities:
Onboarding, competency management, education, professional role development, integration of research and quality improvement, and collaborative partnership development.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Apply professional nursing code of ethics and guidelines to practice.
Use the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development to guide duties.
Act as a resource for employees in the assigned specialty.
Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise professional development and continuing education programs.
Design curricula incorporating evidence‑based practice and measurable outcomes.
Evaluate academic performance and clinical competency, identifying needs and strengths.
Plan educational programs tailored to varying competency levels with available resources.
Function as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion of scientific inquiry, advocate, and partner for practice transitions.
Demonstrate SHC leadership competencies.
Know adult instructional methods, theories, and evaluation techniques.
Stay current with emerging nursing theories, technologies, issues, and approaches relevant to the area of assignment.
Understand laws, regulations, and standards of the nursing profession and institutional policies governing care.
Apply medical terminology, health promotion principles, and pharmacological knowledge to the assigned area.
Understand nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Use computer systems and software utilized by the organization.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university.
Master’s degree in Nursing with coursework in curriculum development, adult learning needs assessment, and outcome measurement from an accredited college.
Experience Qualifications
Four years of progressively responsible nursing experience, including at least one year as a nursing educator or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications
California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or completion within six months of hire.
Emergency Nurse Certification (ENC) preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Work is primarily sedentary in a normal business office environment. No special physical demands are required.
Blood Borne Pathogens
Category III tasks involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Pay
Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $74.73 – $99.04 per hour.
Salary for the selected candidate will be based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
