Sr. Payroll Specialist
plays an important role in helping REI succeed. This job helps ensure our employees are paid accurately and on time, every pay period. The work supports trust, fairness, and financial well-being across the co op.
In this role, you will process REI's in-house payroll and work closely with partners in Accounting and Human Resources. You will help manage payroll taxes, audits, and compliance with federal, state, and local rules. You will also support payroll projects and help improve payroll processes. At times, you may act as a lead for other payroll team members.

Responsibilities
Process weekly and biweekly payroll for about 15,000 employees across 45 states using UKG, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality
Review, reconcile, audit, and correct payroll data to ensure employees are paid correctly and taxes are filed properly
Manage payroll taxes and reporting, including federal, state, and local filings, W 2s, and quarterly and annual reports
Research and resolve payroll issues, escalations, garnishments, child support, levies, and other court ordered deductions
Partner closely with Accounting, HR, Benefits, Compensation, HR Tech, IT, and managers to support pay and financial practices
Support payroll projects, system testing, upgrades, compliance changes, union payroll processing, and process improvements
Lead or guide payroll team members at times and support the Payroll Manager with complex payroll issues
Qualifications
Six or more years of payroll experience, preferably in a large, multistate organization
Strong knowledge of payroll processes, labor laws, and federal, state, and local compliance requirements
Hands-on experience with UKG Pro, UKG Dimensions, reporting, reconciliations, and system testing
Experience with payroll tax processing, audits, garnishments, and payroll related accounting work
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and good judgment
Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with many partners across the company
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is preferred
