Job Overview
The City of Clemson is seeking to fill the position of Maintenance Worker II for the Sanitation department. The position operates and performs garbage collection and other maintenance tasks on a variety of medium and heavy equipment trucks utilized in Sanitation activities. Reports to a Public Works Supervisor.
Work Schedule
Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
Under regular supervision, the Maintenance Worker II operates and performs maintenance using a variety of medium and heavy equipment and trucks utilized in sanitation or street activities; performs various semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance of Public Works systems.
Drive truck and load fallen tree limbs and roadside trash onto truck and deliver refuse to landfill.
Operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment, materials, and supplies.
Operate heavy equipment and trucks under a variety of conditions performing required work tasks in a safe and effective manner.
Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and report defects or needed repairs to supervisor; clean equipment.
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Operate equipment and vehicles in a proper manner, for which they were intended, and within established city safety policy.
Maintain records of areas serviced and items picked up for billing purposes.
Provide on‑call duty coverage during non‑working hours as per duty roster.
Perform manual labor which may include loading and unloading supplies and equipment, installing pipe and related equipment, shaping ditches, placing and grading stone and asphalt, gathering, loading, and disposing of debris, and any other labor‑intensive tasks as required by the supervisor.
Receive written work orders or verbal instructions from the Public Works Supervisor or Public Works Director.
Repair streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete, using a shovel, hand roller, trowel, level, and long‑handled tamp.
Operate snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and driveways.
Hand wash vehicles.
Operate and/or use a variety of equipment, tools, and supplies including power saws, shaving machines, spray gun, staple gun, wrench sets, clamps, roll carts, chipping machine, chain saw, weed eaters, pitchforks, brooms, rakes, leaf blower, motorized vehicles and equipment, including front loader truck, dump truck, pickup truck; saws, pumps, compressors, common hand and portable power tools, shovels, mobile radio, phone, riveting machines, blowtorch, chisels, soldering iron, air compressor, clips, fixtures, graphics instructions, manuals, patterns, rules, templates, backhoe, tractor, mower, edger, pruning shears, pressure sprayer, pressure washer, shovels, rakes, picks, sled hammer, trencher, concrete saw, etc.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent with two years experience involving the use of medium and heavy trucks and equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license and commercial driver's license, or ability to obtain one within six (6) months.
