
Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator - Barbour County

The Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator will report to the Barbour County Headquarters. The selected employee, under general supervision, will perform entry‑level functions in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include driving a light truck or vehicle during regular operation as well as during snow removal and ice control, operating various equipment such as a forklift truck, end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, brush chipper, and hand tools, filling in as a telephone and radio operator during SRIC, transporting materials or fuel to equipment, providing traffic control by flagging on job sites, and handling other related duties as required. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program and will be required, within six months of employment, to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees may be required to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice.
Responsibilities
Operate a light truck or vehicle.
Operate a forklift truck to load and unload trucks.
Operate end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, and brush chipper.
Control brush and vegetation using hand tools and other equipment.
Plow snow using a light truck.
Perform minor maintenance on the fleet of equipment and vehicles.
Transport fuel to the equipment.
Answer telephone and radio calls during snow removal and ice control.
Flag traffic at construction sites.
Travel may be required; therefore a valid driver’s license is required.
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
Qualifications
Knowledge of general safety procedures.
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other motor‑driven equipment.
Knowledge of the operation of motor‑driven equipment.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor‑driven equipment.
Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repair.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to learn from example and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).

Pay Grade 10H, Tier 1 hourly rate: $15.49-13
