LIMS Administrator

The LIMS Administrator is responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the State Hygienic Laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), managing the laboratory workflows, tracking sample life cycles, providing data insights, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Working with SHL staff to configure new tests in the LIMS and coordinating test creation workflows.

Meeting with stakeholders to explore improvements, translating user requests into technical specifications, and estimating effort.

Ensuring technical documentation is up‑to‑date and used to create training materials.

Documenting and validating changes through standardized testing.

Configuring interfaces between the LIMS and laboratory instruments.

Developing reports and scripts to automate routine tasks.

Integrating the LIMS with other systems.

Work Location: Coralville, IA

Work Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday

Work Modality: In‑person, with possible hybrid within Iowa after training.

Pay Grade: 4A

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

1–3 years of experience supporting complex enterprise applications in a STEM workplace.

Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems.

Experience providing help‑desk support.

Hands‑on project management skills.

Excellent communication, customer‑relations, and attention to detail.

Critical thinking, technical problem‑solving, and system‑specification analysis skills.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.

Experience with OpenELIS.

Strong organizational and personal project‑management skills.

Knowledge of public health programs.

Team‑oriented collaboration skills.
