Job Title: Part-Time Family Law Paralegal / Administrative Assistant
Firm: Catherine P. Whelan, Esq.
Location: Cos Cob, CT
Hours: 25 hours per week, flexible schedule
Compensation: $25.00 per hour, depending on experience
Role Overview
Our firm is a boutique family law firm dedicated to providing compassionate and precise legal representation. We are seeking a versatile professional to join our team in an administrative and paralegal capacity. This role is the "right hand" to our attorneys, ensuring smooth office operations while assisting with substantive case development.
Shared Key Responsibilities
Legal Support (Paralegal Duties)
Document Drafting:
Prepare initial drafts of pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and financial affidavits (e.g., Statements of Net Worth).
Case Management:
Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files.
Court Filings:
Manage electronic filings (e-filing) and ensure adherence to all court rules and deadlines.
Trial & Hearing Prep:
Assemble witness binders, exhibits, and trial notebooks.
Research:
Conduct basic legal research on case law and statutes.
Administrative Support
Client Relations:
Conduct initial client intakes with empathy and professionalism.
Scheduling:
Manage attorney calendars, including court dates, depositions, and mediations.
General Office Support:
Handle incoming calls, mail distribution, scanning, and file organization.
Qualifications
Experience:
1+ years of experience in a legal environment; family law experience is preferred.
Education:
Paralegal certificate or Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook) and legal case management software.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
