Overview
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) is an administrative law enforcement agency that investigates allegations of unlawful discrimination and works to secure equal protection of civil rights. It was established in 1965 to carry out the work of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission.
Responsibilities
Investigators are responsible for the investigation and/or resolution of complaints of unlawful discrimination in employment, education, housing, public accommodation, public service, and other jurisdictional areas. Duties include interviewing witnesses, analyzing information, writing investigative reports, and recording data in the departmental database. Investigators participate in the enforcement process, outreach, and community engagement.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in any major. Specific information on the education and experience required for different class levels is provided in the job specifications for the Civil Rights Representative class.
