Overview
NaphCare is hiring a Mental Health Clerk to join our team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - Staton in Elmore, AL.
As a Correctional Mental Clerk, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide essential administrative and clerical support within the facility's mental health department. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs.
Responsibilities
The Mental Health Clerk is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the mental health department. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
Maintaining and organizing patient health records, including initiating, updating, and managing files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
Coordinating and scheduling mental health appointments, including both on-site and off-site appointments, and managing appointment books or calendars
Answering phones, taking messages, and directing calls to appropriate staff, and communicating with various departments, agencies, and individuals as needed
Assisting with the coordination of care for patients, including referrals for specialty services, inpatient care, and discharge planning
Maintaining patient databases, generating reports, and entering data into relevant systems, such as electronic health records or spreadsheets
Performing general clerical tasks, such as typing correspondence, filing documents, and ordering office supplies
Adhering to all security protocols and procedures within the correctional facility, including obtaining security clearances
Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate
Experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, particularly in medical records or with medical terminology, is preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills, adaptable to environments where conditions may not be pristine, and manage and maintain in stressful situations
Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Capabilities:
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
