
Radiographer Assistant- PRN

Responsibilities
Performs non-technical duties in the Department of Radiology.
Assists in answering phones, scheduling patients, and completing necessary paperwork.
Performs required RIS/PACS computer functions.
Performs all functions of Film Library, including processing stat readings, downloading and burning CDs.
Assists radiographers with difficult patients, maneuvers carts, positions patients, and maintains adequate level of supplies.
Prepares necessary supplies prior to exam.
Cleans and stocks exam rooms with supplies and linen; maintains sterile supplies from central processing department.
Assists patients onto exam table; coordinates any special needs for the patient by alerting department leadership as necessary.
Displays flexibility to meet department needs related to volume demand and facilitate timely patient throughput.
Prepares patients for their exam; assists in changing patient, verifies physician’s orders, explains procedure preparation, and communicates any delays.
Maintains a positive "guest relations" attitude and telephone etiquette prescribed by departmental policies and procedures.
Functions with a high degree of customer service skills and awareness, striving to meet the needs of patients, their representatives, physicians, physician office staff, and Medical Center associates.
Ensures a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards.
Adheres to department procedures regarding patient safety; enters safety events online as necessary; adheres to Safe Patient Handling protocols.
Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains professionalism, cooperation, and positive interaction with coworkers, physicians, patients, and families.
Education/Experience Required
High School Graduate; 6 months to 1 year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Good interpersonal and communication skills; knowledge of computers.
CPR Certification.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients; may be exposed to disease and film processing chemicals; ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-back to accommodate staffing needs; may be exposed to radiation.
Must recognize needs and behaviors of various age groups; prior experience with multiple age groups preferred.
If direct patient care or contact is involved, ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, or when the patient cannot assist, patient handling equipment should be used with at least one other associate when available. Case-by-case assessment of unique lifting/movement situations.
