Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full‑time Shipboard Elevator Mechanical Technician III in Norfolk, VA. This position will work closely with the Ship's Force, Government, and contract personnel to provide technical support for the US Navy ships. The role includes assessing and repairing all mechanical aspects of shipboard elevators, dumbwaiters, and conveyors in a shop and shipboard environment. The position supports aircraft carrier elevator maintenance at Newport News, Virginia.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides technical support and assistance on mechanical systems and components, supporting U.S. Navy shipboard weapons elevators, cargo elevators, and dumbwaiters.
Conducts research and provides drawings, technical manual information, design specifications, and engineering recommendations for condition assessment, corrective action, and preventative measures to reduce equipment‑related problems.
Assists with shipboard PMS accomplishment.
Uses a variety of precision measurement standards and instruments.
Assists the ship's force with obtaining supply and repair parts information as required.
Provides technical assistance and support on complex machinery control system problems beyond the capability of the ship's force.
Communicates directly with the ship's force representative, describing mechanical systems and component problems and solutions.
Contributes to process improvement, assembles and installs equipment using hand and power tools.
Performs out‑briefs to ship's force representatives, officers, and engineering management.
Understands and follows standard safety procedures and operations.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum six plus years of direct experience with preventive/corrective maintenance and troubleshooting of shipboard weapons elevators, cargo elevators, and dumbwaiter systems.
Ability to read drawings, prints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to locate defective components and perform repairs, following published technical directives and equipment specifications for alignment and calibration.
Ability to attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly units using hand and power tools as instructed, and perform other supervisor‑assigned duties.
Knowledgeable of Navy tag‑out, standard troubleshooting techniques, and Navy quality assurance practices.
Familiarity with military terminology procedures.
Knowledge of standard items, test procedures, and test memos.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM).
Experience with quality assurance.
Prior Craftsman 301 qualification.
OSHA 10 certification.
ADA Notations
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
Regular communication (hearing and speaking).
Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting of heavy objects.
Ability to go aboard ships, barges, and other naval craft.
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passages, up and down steep and narrow ladders or stairways onboard ships.
Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs.
Industrial shop environment.
