Job Description

We are looking for a Automation Field Service Technician to join our Rexel team in St Rose, LA!

Summary
The Industrial Automation Field Service Technician is responsible for providing on‑site services to support process and discrete manufacturing operations. Specifically, services related to evaluating installed automation hardware/software, assessing networked equipment, troubleshooting systems, and identifying modernization opportunities. Support activities may include programming, drive startups, enhancing system reliability, and resolving emergency issues.

What You’ll Do

Develop, modify, and troubleshoot programs in modern tag‑based PLC environments across major automation platforms

Apply a strong understanding of data types, structures, UDTs, arrays, and aliasing to build scalable and maintainable automation logic

Design and organize program architecture using modular, structured programming practices (e.g., routines, function blocks, state logic, reusable code modules)

Implement best practices for code readability, version control, and documentation to support long‑term system reliability

Manage diagnosing logic, communication, and I/O issues using online monitoring, data tracing, and system diagnostics tools

Act as representative of Rexel while performing services on mission critical customer equipment and applications

Develop relationships with key customer stakeholders

Present findings to technical and non‑technical audiences

Articulate the value of services offerings to customers during the lifecycle of the engagement

Work with customers to determine customer problems, needs and goals thereby identifying opportunities for products and services that may be outside of the scope of your original engagement

Document work activities in appropriate, professional report format

Assist in the clarification and resolution of customer issues

Communicate needs and issues with management to avoid problems before they arise

Manage time in such a way that scheduling issues do not arise

Work positively in a team‑based environment that is in continuous movement

Qualifications
What You’ll Need

3+ years of hands‑on experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment

Exposure to industrial Lockout Tag out standards and best practices

Exposure to industrial Arch Flash standards and best practices

Exposure to Industrial Control Systems including PLC, HMI/SCADA, plant historian, motor control, motion control, etc. technology and applications (Rockwell or comparable platforms)

High School or GED - Required

Associate’s Degree - Preferred

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree - Preferred

Associate's of Science Degree in Engineering or Technology or technological training preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related technology‑driven degree

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Understanding of safe work practices in an industrial environment including but not limited to utilization personal protective equipment as required

Demonstrate strong interpersonal communications, organizational and written/verbal communication skills

Demonstrate ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing demands

Examples of being self‑motivated and able to work independently

Hands‑on experience with commercially available technology such as Microsoft excel, word, etc.

Demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills required

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.

Strong understanding of AC/ DC circuits, relays, sensors, solenoids, motors, and drives.

Proficiency with multimeters, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, and signal testers.

Knowledge of industrial electrical safety standards (LOTO, NFPA 70E).

Ability to read prints and documentation regarding a machine or process

Ability to manage time between jobs and while on the job during a project or other engagement

Ability to gather data for future projects that management can use to create a scope document for proposal

Ability to drive utilization to target goals set by management

Ability to work with sales on multiple customer engagements

Ability to respond promptly to requests for support

Ability to learn on the job and always be improving skills and abilities
