Job Description
Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Cardiac Device Technician I at our DCAM‑Hyde Park clinic. This is a 100% onsite position based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Under the direct supervision of an attending physician, the Cardiac Device Technician assists in providing care to patients requiring various cardiac rhythm devices. Duties include evaluation and reprogramming of implantable pacemakers, defibrillators, loop recorders, and the management of ambulatory and remote monitoring. The Technician provides care to both inpatients and outpatients and must possess adequate knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and cardiac rhythms to perform related procedures.
The Technician will manage remote device interrogations, patient follow‑up, care coordination, and the communication of findings to providers and staff.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for the interrogation and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices for a complex and diverse cardiovascular patient population.
Identify and seek appropriate therapy for basic and complex arrhythmias and device malfunction.
Manage remote device interrogations.
Provide patient follow‑up and care coordination.
Communicate findings to providers and other staff members.
Required Qualifications
At least two years of experience in device interrogation and in a cardiovascular medicine clinic.
Thorough knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system.
Proven visual acuity, manual dexterity, and accuracy.
Independent judgment and initiative to utilize specialized equipment within a complex organizational structure.
Experience with all modalities of device interrogation formats.
Experience in EKG identification.
Licenses / Certifications
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Certified Cardiology Device Specialist (CCDS) or working toward accreditation (preferred).
Position Details
Job Type/FTE: Full‑time, 1.0.
Shift: 10‑hour shifts, Day, 7:00 am‑5:30 pm.
Work Location: Onsite – DCAM‑Hyde Park.
Unit/Department: Cardiology.
CBA Code: Non‑Union.
In this role, you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week, scheduled for the first shift and on‑call shifts as needed. You will be scheduled 100% at the Hyde Park campus, with days varying according to departmental needs and the self‑scheduling format.
