
Patient Service Rep (Float)

Overview
The Patient Service Representative reports to the Practice Manager and oversees the financial processes associated with patient services provided in the practice. The role involves greeting patients, performing registration and check‑in functions, answering phones, scheduling appointments, obtaining referrals and authorizations, processing forms, and performing the discharge process. Responsibilities
Oversee the patient financial process to ensure patient payments (co‑payments, deductibles, self‑pay) are obtained at the time of service and properly processed.
Verify that all necessary information is complete and accurate, including demographics, referrals, authorizations, billing codes, and diagnosis information.
Complete the end‑of‑day batch, including reconciliation of arrived patient schedules and time‑of‑service payments within established time frames.
Provide clerical support for the practice and orient new employees to department policies and procedures.
Maintain quality, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established policies and objectives.
Protect and preserve the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
Travel to satellite offices to perform duties as required.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Basic Knowledge:
Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a two‑year Medical Office Management/Medical Secretary program or equivalent experience in a physician’s medical office practice. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
Experience:
Two years experience in a physician’s medical office practice. Proficiency in English and computer appointment scheduling. Familiarity with medical office procedures and medical terminology. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as a physician’s medical office practice and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Work with medical office equipment and direct patient contact. Potential hazards are minimized by adherence to safety procedures and precautions, including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing. Requires walking, standing intermittently, potential exposure to electrical and energy hazards, and lifting or positioning patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
