Overview
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process.
Qualifications
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License – Illinois (Upon Hire)
Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days
College Diploma in Nursing
Advanced reading, writing, and basic oral skills
Ability to respond appropriately to customers/co‑workers
Ability to maintain confidential information and communicate facts
Professional, friendly, helpful demeanor
Basic computer knowledge (Word processing, spreadsheets, e‑mail, web browser, Windows OS)
Responsibilities
Assess patient’s status through interview, observation and physical assessment
Develop an individualized plan of care with patient/family and health care team
Use appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected outcomes
Evaluate and document patient’s progress toward expected outcomes during shift
Modify plan of care based on evaluation
Complete required documentation, including patient chart and event reports
Seek resources and pursue continuing self‑development to demonstrate professional accountability
Demonstrate technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoot problems
Maintain current evidence‑based nursing knowledge and skills
Promote the professional development of self and team members
Share clinical knowledge through teaching and responding to learning needs
Apply practical problem‑solving for patient moving and handling (where applicable)
Use lift equipment appropriately to promote safety (where applicable)
Obtain adequate lab specimens for testing and perform bedside lab testing per protocols
Analyze clinical situations and obtain resources or correct problems promptly
Utilize physician and nurse colleagues for consultation when needed
Demonstrate ownership and persistence to resolve issues
Assume assignments of non‑complex, some complex patient management
Prioritize work amid changes in patient condition, assignment, and interruptions
Use team resources to solve problems or needs
Collaborate with health care team for patient admission to discharge planning
Delegate tasks appropriately with team members
Provide goal‑focused shift reports
Advocate for patients with physicians
Use communication and teamwork strategies to enhance performance and outcomes
Choose appropriate communication style; give and receive constructive feedback
Adapt teaching strategies based on patient readiness and comprehension
Consider cultural, age‑specific, gender, and developmental factors in teaching
Follow policies/procedures and National Patient Safety Goals to ensure safety
Utilize SVI patient education system as resource
Ensure care aligns with standards, evidence‑based practices, national safety goals, and quality initiatives
Identify improvement opportunities with the interdisciplinary team
Follow up on patient/family requests efficiently
Serve on unit‑based councils and work on assigned projects, data collection, audits
Compensation and Benefits
