If you enjoy hands‑on lab work and like being trusted to think, adapt, and solve problems, this is an R&D Technician role. You will support prototype and pre‑production testing, work with engineers on new product builds, and grow technical skills in a fast‑paced R&D lab supporting advanced data center cooling and enclosure solutions.
Work Hours
Hourly position, on‑site 5 days/week in Anoka, MN. 40 hours/week. Core hours: 9:30 am‑3:30 pm.
Responsibilities
Set up and complete prototype, pre‑production, and agency testing in nVent’s R&D lab across enclosures, cooling, and high‑density liquid cooling (HDLC) product areas.
Partner closely with engineers to understand test intent, adapt test setups, and support evolving test plans and procedures.
Build, modify, and operate test fixtures, lab equipment, and prototypes to support new product development and validation testing.
Collect accurate test results, record measurements and observations, and prepare clear, well‑organized technical reports with observations and supporting data.
Identify, analyze, and address test setups, equipment issues, and product behavior applying mechanical, electrical, and controls knowledge.
Support lab organization, equipment calibration, and continuous improvement efforts to increase lab efficiency and throughput.
Contribute to design, value engineering, and new product introduction (NPI) activities by providing hands‑on lab and testing support.
Qualifications
Associate degree or equivalent technical training in electrical, electronics, HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field (preferred).
2+ years of experience working in an engineering, R&D, or test lab (required). Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
Strong mechanical and/or electrical proficiency, with the ability to diagnose and resolve test set‑up, instrumentation, equipment, and product behavior beyond provided procedures.
Ability to document and communicate test results through clear, accurate technical reports, data collection, and test documentation using standard computer tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Comfortable using common lab instrumentation and measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, pressure/force gauges, voltage meters) and software for data logging or test station operation.
Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs, and stand or sit for extended periods during testing activities.
EPA 608 certification required, or willingness to acquire within 3 months of start date (company paid).
Compensation
Hourly rate: $23.94 – $44.42 per hour.
Depending on the position offered, employee may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as annual incentives.
