Job Overview
The Inpatient Service Specialist (ISS) provides administrative and high‑level customer service support to patients, families and internal team members. The ISS facilitates the Patient‑Family Experience in the inpatient units at the main campus. Additional duties may include greeting and directing patients and families to various locations; collecting information from patients/families and entering it into a medical records system; answering and routing telephone inquiries; interacting with patients and families to determine and best meet their needs; copying, scanning and/or filing various documents.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) is a 48‑bed inpatient unit specializing in the care of patients with cancer, blood disorders, immunodeficiencies, and genetic disorders. Treatments include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, cellular therapy, and radioactive therapy for oncologic and non‑oncologic diagnoses. Hematology and oncology patient stays average 5 days, including acute admissions, and cellular therapeutic patients average 4‑8 weeks for their initial transplant.

Shift: Day Shift, hours vary (6:45 am – 7:15 pm or 8:30 am – 9:00 pm). Weekends: some weekends required, varying based on unit need. Holidays: one summer and one winter holiday required. Schedule: Full Time, 3‑12 hr shifts per week, benefits eligible.

Duties & Responsibilities

Facilitates family and patient orientation to the unit/clinic, inclusive of all patient and family amenities.

Conducts patient and family rounding to ensure comfort level and provide excellent customer service.

Provides general support for administrative functions and processes that support a department and its team members.

Arranges and schedules meetings, including conference calls and seminars.

Creates and maintains files and/or filing systems.

Provides high‑level customer service support and assistance to patients, families, physicians and internal team members.

Performs reception duties utilizing various systems including telephone, fax, mail services, email and copy services.

Performs data entry functions, including patient demographic information and updates in a medical records system.

Creates patient identification cards, including photographing patients.

Supports patient safety by adhering to all infection control policies and safety guidelines.

Utilizes and remains up‑to‑date with department office operations and established policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

One year of administrative/clerical experience in a customer service environment.

A relevant associate or bachelor degree may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

No licenses or certifications required.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $18.26 to $27.40
