POSITION OVERVIEW
The mechanical maintenance position is responsible for keeping the plant equipment running or ready to run at all times. This involves applying technical knowledge and decision-making to perform breakdown repairs, preventive and predictive maintenance, and root cause analysis. The associate must be available to work overtime, including off-hours and weekends, as needed. Work hours may be flexible to accommodate plant requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Abide by all Milliken and Valway Plant policies.
Participate in plant and team meetings.
Participate in the Safety program by joining a Safety Subcommittee and other safety activities; follow safety guidelines including lock out/tag out, ladder safety, fall prevention, hand tools, power tools, PPE, etc.
Follow plant environmental rules and understand environmental impacts of job activities.
Identify plant alarms and respond to emergency alarms.
Maintain housekeeping and organization in work areas.
Read and complete required forms, checklists, instructions, manuals, and manufacturer literature as needed.
Operate a lift truck, man-lift, aerial lift, or other equipment as required.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance as needed.
Be willing to undertake additional training and meet minimum criteria.
Respectfully take on additional duties or activities as assigned and support other associates to build teamwork.
Experience in welding (torch cutting, stick and MIG welding) and in pneumatics and hydraulics.
Knowledgeable of piping threading/tapping and machine threads.
Be experienced with hand and power tools; shaft alignment; and maintenance of belts, chains, sprockets, couplings, gearboxes, bearings, and pumps/motors/gearboxes.
Safely change out pumps, motors, gearboxes, etc., and operate safely at heights or in confined spaces as required.
Perform lubrication as indicated in AMMS.
Share knowledge, educate others, and help develop the capabilities of other associates.
Willing to travel for classes or meetings as needed and demonstrate leadership and communication skills.
Troubleshoot breakdowns and abnormal machine operation; work with or lead contractors as needed.
Suggest improvements to the overall process and perform other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One-year Industrial Maintenance Technical Degree.
Ability to be licensed to operate a forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two-year Technical Degree.
Computer experience.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read and write.
Ability to weld and use cutting torch.
Ability to drive a forklift.
Adherence to safety specifications; basic computer knowledge.
Ability to work all shifts and weekends when needed.
Ability to read blueprints.

Pushing/Pulling/Reach; able to push/pull >45 lbs and reach >18 inches
Bending to pick up objects; 5% of the day
Visual acuity to read printed and computer information; 100% of the day
Cognitive ability to make decisions and reason; 100% of the day
WORK ENVIRONMENT / SAFETY-SENSITIVE
Manufacturing facility; safety-sensitive position with moving parts and powered industrial vehicles. Loud environment; temperatures can exceed 100°F; high humidity.
SHIFT / WORK HOURS
Typical hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday; weekends and holidays as required by business demands. Shifts may change based on plant needs.
