Job Summary:

The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy or other designated leader. The RN demonstrates knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy including but not limited to hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions. This RN regularly administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastic agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies in an outpatient infusion center; alternate settings could occur. The individual is responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs. They address patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs and deliver care in complex situations. The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff. The RN is expected to be licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals. They attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, special projects and continuing education. Performs other duties as necessary. This role may serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues. Local travel is required. Float staff will be required to float between Cobb Hospital HODs based on need. All sites are within 35 miles of Cobb Hospital.

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and ensuring that care is individualized; coordinates care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that aligns with population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and reflects understanding of cultural diversity.
Partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., just-in-time and planned patient teaching; keeping the patient goals as the focus of the plan of care).
Practices using current clinical standards including chemotherapy and targeted therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions.
Meets annual requirements for chemotherapy competence.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care with diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods; complete timely documentation and promote a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
Supports performance improvement initiatives, including research and shared governance at all system levels.

Professional Development and Initiative

Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education; participates in population-specific education.
Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff to ensure a qualified workforce and healthy work environment.
Cultivates oncology nursing knowledge by engaging in continuing education, earning or maintaining a specialty oncology certification, or obtaining 12 continuing education credits annually.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in value analysis and supports data-driven decision making.
Upholds policies and procedures, clinical competencies, and legal/regulatory standards (e.g., Oncology Nursing Society) including TJC Patient Safety Goals and safety absolutes.
Participates in data collection, poses clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice, consults appropriate experts, and uses evidence to address practice questions.

Resources and Support

Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum in the course of direct patient care.
Participates in developing protocols and procedures with care managers and other team members to achieve best-practice outcomes (e.g., decrease readmission rates, reduce avoidable days, prevent adverse events).
Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Required Minimum Education:
Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelors Nursing-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification
