Overview
The Outside Sales & Design Consultant is a skilled salesperson with a strong record of results, delivering exceptional service in custom designs and organization solutions for homes and select small to mid‑size business environments. The consultant designs, sells, and coordinates all phases of custom spaces—consultation, design, installation, and organizing—to create a seamless customer experience. The role builds repeat clientele, generates referrals, and develops B2B and trade relationships with property managers, builders, real estate professionals, and commercial clients.

Responsibilities

Meet or exceed sales goals, conversions, and positive customer survey results by inspiring, designing, and confidently selling complete, functional, and aesthetically appealing solutions for residential, business, and trade clients.

Establish trust and rapport, understand customer needs, and present projects and customized plans in a clear, professional manner.

Manage multiple, simultaneous customer projects with high detail, accurate timing, and consistent, concise communication.

Develop clientele and new leads through ongoing customer relationships, networking, referrals, and professional partnerships.

Build relationships within the local community by connecting with interior designers, home builders, realtors, property managers, senior living professionals, and other business partners.

Identify, develop, and manage small to mid‑size B2B and trade opportunities, including multi‑unit, repeat, or phased projects.

Maintain discretion regarding all confidential and sensitive company and customer information.

Experience And Skills Required

College degree preferred; 2–5 years of outside sales experience preferred, especially in custom spaces or closets.

Self‑starter who is organized, creative, solutions‑oriented, and able to manage time, appointments, and projects efficiently in a white‑glove customer‑service environment.

Knowledge of design principles and trends in custom spaces, interior design, fashion, and retail industries.

Professional appearance and demeanor, with clear and effective communication at all levels, both verbally and in writing.

Flexible and positive attitude, able to prioritize high‑value tasks and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, Salesforce, AutoCAD‑based design tools, and Windows‑based systems.

Reliable transportation for customer appointments within a travel radius of up to 100 miles; must maintain valid automobile insurance and meet applicable state inspection standards.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and additional hours as needed.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

The Container Store offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, an 8‑week paid training program, a $35,000 base draw, and the opportunity to earn up to $120,000 in total take‑home pay through uncapped commission.
