Job Summary

The Fiber Splicing Technician splices, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs fiber optic cables.
Job Responsibilities

End‑of‑Line Network Testing: Testing light levels at the end of fiber networks for balanced signal between points is crucial to ensure proper signal transmission and network performance.
Cable Prep: Ensure that cables are properly labeled and organized to minimize errors during installation.
Build Fiber Cases and Enclosures: Construct fiber cases and enclosures, creating protective housings for fiber optic equipment and connections.
Splice Color for Color Fibers: Match the colors of fibers to ensure correct connections.
Cable Management: Organize cables neatly within the enclosure, ensuring proper routing and securing to prevent tangling or damage.
Sealing and Placement of Case: Ensure the enclosure is properly closed and secured.
Read Prints and Maps: Examine splice matrices and redline maps to understand fiber routes and assignments.
Splice off color and multiple cables in one enclosure.
Jumping Trays: Route fibers from one tray to another to optimize cable management or reduce signal loss.
Splice Tie Point and Jumper Cases: Connect fibers from different cables at a tie point.
Connect Jumper cables between jumper cases.
Rehab gel‑filled cases: Rehabilitate gel‑filled enclosures used in fiber optic networks.
Redlining and Documentation: Mark up existing drawings with changes, updates, or corrections.
Case swaps and audits: Replace equipment case or enclosure with another.
Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues affecting performance and reliability of the network.
May pull cable through existing duct package, conduit (manually, with blowing or mechanically), and splice and activate underground and aerial lines.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications

General
Ability to do physical labor, climb ladders and poles, work in confined spaces.
Ability to read blueprints for job specifications and placement of cables.
Must be able to distinguish between different colors for connection of fibers.
Must be a self‑starter and internally motivated to achieve corporate, department, and personal objectives.
Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) and be a team player.
Must possess excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
Ability to use basic math skills to compute measurements and timecards.
Ability to listen and follow directions.
Must be organized, multi‑task oriented, and maintain a neat and safe work environment.
Ability to work in high places on ladders and poles.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to distinguish different fiber connections.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able and willing to work outdoors under inclement weather.
Maintain visual and audible contact with crewmen and other persons to ensure safe coordination.
Work around heavy equipment and machinery.
Stand or walk for long periods of time.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting.
Work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and applicable safety gear.
