Pay Range:
$40.00 – $60.00 per hour
(Based on experience and RETA certification)

We are seeking a highly skilled
Senior Ammonia Refrigeration Technician
to oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial ammonia (NH3) systems. Unlike typical service roles, this position is designed for a professional seeking
long-term stability and minimal travel .
This role is a "player-coach" position: you will be the technical lead on the floor today with a clear
succession path into a leadership or supervisory role
as our regional operations expand.
Key Responsibilities
System Maintenance:
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on large-scale ammonia systems, including screw/reciprocating compressors (Frick, FES, Vilter), condensers, and evaporators.
Compliance & Safety:
Maintain strict adherence to
IIAR standards
and
OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
protocols. Lead daily rounds and document system readings with high accuracy.
Mechanical Expertise:
Execute pump-outs, oil changes, and valve replacements (including safety relief valve swaps). Perform motor alignments and troubleshoot electrical control systems (PLC/SCADA).
Leadership & Strategy:
Mentor junior technicians and oversee third-party contractors during major capital projects or system overhauls.
Emergency Response:
Act as a key member of the emergency response team for any NH3 leaks or system outages.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
Minimum of 5–10 years of industrial refrigeration experience with a primary focus on Anhydrous Ammonia.
Certifications:
Preferred:
RETA CARO or CIRO certification.
Highly Preferred:
RETA CRST (Certified Refrigeration Service Technician).
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of P&IDs, electrical schematics, and hydraulic systems.
Physical:
Ability to work in extreme temperatures (cold storage/roof-top heat) and wear a full-face respirator when necessary.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills for reporting technical data to non-technical stakeholders.
