Responsibilities
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for using radioactive isotopes to assist in diagnosis.
Performs procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a Radiologist.
Exerises professional judgement in patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures with A+ care for all patients.
Essential Functions
Prepares patient for procedures: providing instructions to obtain results and answers questions regarding risks and adverse reactions.
Verify patient identification by checking for correct patient information for procedure.
Complete patient information sheet to obtain history prior to exam.
Prepares and administers various forms of radioactive materials.
Administer intravenous injections.
Selects and operates nuclear medicine equipment.
Positions patients to best demonstrate area of interest.
Determines best technical factors for quality images.
Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
Evaluates images for proper technique and assuring proper identification.
Addresses patient concerns.
Properly sends films to the PACS system, checks, and presents them to radiologist before patient dismissal.
Practice Universal Precautions.
Certified in BLS.
Keep records required by the Alabama Department of Public Health and perform duties in accordance with Radiation Protection Guidelines.
Responsible for helping train new personnel in area.
Maintain positive working relationship with other areas in the office.
Monitors the status of equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
Responsible for control of inventory of supplies for area.
Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the work area.
Must have knowledge of RIS/PACS computer system.
Able to locate crash cart, emergency drug box, fire alarm pulls and extinguisher, and emergency exits.
Be able to operate PET scanner

Qualifications
The ideal candidate would be well rounded in and have extensive knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Medicine/PET exams.
Medical Industry Experience a plus.
Superior problem-solving skills.
Strong project management skills (planning and execution) with demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines.
Detail-oriented with the ability to handle moderately complex assignments under minimal supervision.
Must be educated in and compliant with HIPAA.
High School Diploma or equivalent *
Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program preferred *
ARRT or CNMT certified *
CT certification required within 1st year of hire
Preferred to have a minimum of 3 years\' experience in Nuclear Medicine with experience in PET
PACS/RIS computer skills * Knowledge of e-mail/scheduling software applications
