
Lead Maintenance Technician

The Lead Maintenance Technician is a hands‑on, working lead responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment while providing day‑to‑day leadership to maintenance technicians. This role serves as a player‑coach, performing advanced troubleshooting and repairs while guiding, training, and coordinating the work of the maintenance team. The Lead Maintenance Technician partners closely with Operations to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and reinforce a strong safety culture.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
Lead by example in following and enforcing all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure proper use of PPE and strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and hazardous energy control procedures.
Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and take immediate corrective action.
Promote housekeeping, equipment guarding, and safe work practices across the facility.
Maintenance Execution (Hands‑On)
Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize unplanned downtime.
Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement sustainable solutions.
Support equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements.
Lead / Team Coordination (Player‑Coach)
Provide daily work direction to maintenance technicians, including task assignments and prioritization.
Serve as a technical resource and subject‑matter expert during complex repairs or breakdowns.
Coach, train, and mentor technicians to build skills, consistency, and accountability.
Support onboarding and cross‑training of new or developing technicians.
Planning, Documentation & Communication
Coordinate and document maintenance activities using the CMMS, including work orders, parts usage, and repair history.
Communicate equipment status, risks, and priorities clearly with Operations and leadership.
Assist with planning maintenance activities to align with production schedules.
Provide input on spare parts needs, recurring issues, and preventive maintenance improvements.
Qualifications
Required
Demonstrated experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance.
Proven ability to lead work execution and coach peers.
Strong safety awareness and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred
Technical certification or formal training in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechatronics.
Experience working as a lead, senior technician, or subject‑matter expert.
CMMS experience.
