CONSTRUCTION WORKER I

Position Summary
This entry-level position focuses on supporting skilled tradesmen in day‑to‑day construction activities under foreman supervision. Duties include assisting with concrete forming and placement, potholing utilities, spotter work during excavation, backfilling, grading, asphalt placement, maintaining barricades and signage, traffic control, operating hand tools and small machinery, and performing miscellaneous jobsite tasks. The role also includes assisting with downed‑tree removal, snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
Responsibilities
Assist concrete masons with forming and placement for sidewalks, curb cuts, footers, etc.
Support construction operators in earthmoving activities: spotting, rough/fine grading, excavation/backfilling, tamping.
Facilitate earthwork gradients for asphalt and concrete placement.
Operate construction equipment: compressors, jackhammers, compactors, saws, and hand tools.
Perform traffic control measures for road and utility projects, including barricades, cones, and signage.
Respond to grounds emergencies to maintain campus safety during inclement weather.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout an 8‑hour work day.
Sustain work under adverse weather and climate conditions.
