
Patient Services Floater

Job Summary
Patient Service Floater under the direction of the area supervisor performs daily phlebotomy activities of the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Patient Service Technician (PST) accurately and on time. The person in this position travels to client locations as needed. The role involves interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel in a professional and courteous manner and performing forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ready to travel to a client assignment within a designated region with short notice.
Greets customers appropriately. Treats all customers in a courteous manner.
Ensures all field patient service and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteously. Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment before, during, and after the collection process.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Completes requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and/or other PathGroup computer applications.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Maintains high accuracy and communicates with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify tests ordered, and obtain accurate billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN information).
Researches test/client information utilizing the lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by the test order.
Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimens according to required temperatures, labels appropriately, and follows protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
Maintains required records and documentation, including daily PSC/IOPST Patient Service logs.
Assists with the compilation of monthly statistics and data.
P erforms basic clerical duties (e.g., filing, faxing, mail) and electronic data entry.
Approves time in the attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period and submits accurate expense and travel logs as directed.
Demonstrates organizational commitment and adheres to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies.
Utilizes time effectively to manage fluctuating patient flow and maintains courteous, professional behavior with clients and co-workers.
Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, identifying the company and providing a helpful statement.
Performs duties independently and communicates pertinent information/issues to the supervisor for resolution.
Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort within the department and company.
Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair; reports needed repairs and maintenance to the Group Leader or Supervisor.
Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages or problems as they occur.
Utilizes proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety and adheres to lab safety precautions and procedures.
Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with industry best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
Familiar with and abides by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
Non-essential Functions
Works with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
