Brief Description

Role: Studio Director
Classification: Exempt Salaried
Reports to: VP of Preconstruction

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall health and performance of the A&E Studio, including workload, capacity, quality, delivery, while championing design excellence across all projects and teams.
  • Manage and develop a team of architectural and interiors professionals, providing mentorship, accountability, and growth opportunities; inspire and motivate staff to pursue the highest standards of design excellence.
  • Drive operational excellence through forecasting, utilization tracking, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure design deliverables meet quality standards and align with construction execution; guide design concepts from initial pursuit through successful project completion across multiple projects.
  • Identify and solve challenges across projects, people, and processes.
  • Establish and reinforce clear expectations and accountability across the team.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between design and construction teams.
  • Contribute to the Studio’s financial performance, ensuring it operates as a profitable business unit.
  • Develop and foster a studio culture that supports design excellence, staff creativity, and continuous improvement, creating an environment where Employee-Owners are empowered to do their best work.
  • Actively participate in local, national, or professional design and construction organizations to reinforce Bobbi’s reputation and extend our brand in the market.

Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies

  • Education background in Architecture or Interior Architecture.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related architecture/interiors experience with demonstrated progression into leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing architectural and interiors teams.
  • Strong understanding of design and construction processes.
  • Experience with operational management including forecasting, utilization, and delivery tracking.
  • Business acumen with an understanding of profitability and performance metrics.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, direct feedback; professional presence and ability to lead client presentations and build trusted relationships.
  • A genuine attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our 100% employee‑owned culture.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Licensed Architect (RA) in good standing.
  • Experience in a design‑build or contractor‑integrated environment.
  • Proven ability to develop team members into senior contributors or leaders.
  • Familiarity with design‑build delivery methods and project structures.
  • Experience with department budgets, P&L, or operational reporting.

Work Format

This is a flexible position with remote work allowed as needed (approx. 1–2 days per week). Team collaboration and presence at in‑person meetings are critical.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel to meetings or events within 150‑mile radius of office.
  • Occasional travel to various locations requiring an overnight stay.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires lifting and moving objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires periods of walking and standing.
