Overview
TelevisaUnivision is the premier Spanish language media company in the United States. The Sacramento, CA location is currently seeking a full-time Technical Director for live newscasts and other station productions. This role encompasses Director and Technical Director functions with Production Video Switchers and/or manual “punch and call.”
About You
The technical leader will coordinate all aspects of the live daily newscasts alongside the News editorial staff and will develop and implement the best tools and practices to showcase the product. As editor, the individual will be responsible for editing for the station’s newscasts.
Responsibilities
- Direct and Technical Direct fast-paced newscasts and other station productions using a Sony MVS-6500 switcher and “punch and call.”
- Record and film segments for shows, and edit as needed using professional cameras and editing software.
- Set up the studio and control room environments for various productions, including audio and lighting.
- Lead the technical crew before, during and after productions and participate in crew development.
- Actively participate in the News “look” creation and propose ideas for newscast and show enhancements.
- Shoot, assemble, and edit material for daily newscasts, web, and other platforms.
- Work with reporters, producers and on solo projects (video essays).
- Expected to work flexible hours including overnights, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Other duties as deemed necessary.
Qualifications
- Must have working knowledge of Production Video Switchers (Sony MVS-6530 or equivalent), non-linear editing (Premiere Pro or equivalent), and Newsroom Computer Systems (iNEWS or equivalent). Production cameras such as Sony Z280, Panasonic P2 and DSLR knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven live TV environment. Must be flexible and adapt to changing, demanding conditions.
- Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly desired but not required.
- Ability and flexibility to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Minimum two years of small to medium market television operations and production experience.
- Previous directing experience is required.
- AA/BA/BS in Television Arts/Sciences is desired; work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Knowledge of general FCC rules and regulations is highly desired.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, type, edit, reach, and sit for up to eight hours.
- Must be 18 years of age or older

- Must be willing to work from the offices in Sacramento, CA
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Salary Range $45,000 - $54,000 + benefits. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The national salary range listed reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations applicable to the position.
