Recycle Sortation Associate
The Sortation Associate is responsible for manually and visually sorting recyclable paper materials on a fast-paced conveyor line to ensure quality standards are met. This role supports safety, efficiency, and product quality in a busy recycling warehouse by accurately separating materials, loading machinery, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Responsibilities
Sort and separate recyclable paper materials such as cardboard, mixed paper, and office paper from non-recyclable or contaminated items on a moving conveyor line.
Remove debris, trash, plastics, metals, and other contaminants from conveyor lines to maintain product quality.
Sort materials into appropriate containers, balers, or recycling machinery as needed.
Load sorted recyclable materials into recycling machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
Maintain line speed and productivity while ensuring accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
Follow all safety procedures, protocols, and guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or quality issues promptly to supervisors.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards to support operational efficiency.
Assist with routine cleaning and basic housekeeping of equipment and surrounding areas.
Support general warehouse and production floor duties as assigned.
Follow verbal and written instructions accurately to complete daily tasks and meet performance expectations.
Essential Skills
Ability to sort paper, cardboard, and debris on a fast-paced recycling line.
Ability to stand for extended periods (812 hours) and perform repetitive motions such as bending, reaching, grasping, and continuous hand-eye coordination.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 4050 pounds as required.
Comfort working near moving machinery and conveyor belts in an industrial environment.
Basic ability to identify different types of paper and recyclable materials (training provided).
Dependable attendance and ability to work scheduled shifts, including overtime when required.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions reliably.
Comfortable working in an environment with noise, dust, and variable temperatures.
General labor capability, including heavy lifting and debris removal.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
No prior recycling experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
Experience in recycling, warehouse, production, or general labor environments is a plus but not required.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
Willingness to consistently use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment
This role is based in a warehouse and production floor setting within a paper and cardboard recycling center. The schedule is 1st shift, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional Saturdays as needed. The facility is a non-climate-controlled environment with exposure to dust, paper fibers, paper shreds, dirt, and industrial noise, which can feel intense for some individuals. The work is fast-paced and team-oriented, with frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting around moving conveyor belts and machinery. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided to support a strong safety culture.
