Machinist

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce high-quality components in a clean, organized, and team-oriented manufacturing environment. You will perform multiple daily set-ups, complete accurate quality inspections, and contribute to efficient production through precise machining and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce parts according to specifications.
Perform an average of 45 complete machine set-ups per day, including tooling, offsets, and program adjustments as needed.
Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to perform in-process and final quality inspections.
Adjust tools, offsets, and machine parameters to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
Perform changeovers efficiently between jobs to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
Operate related shop equipment, such as drill presses, as required to complete assigned work.
Troubleshoot machining issues, including surface finish, dimensional, and tooling problems, and take corrective actions.
Follow established procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent and safe machine operation.
Work closely with the lead machinist and production leadership in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Maintain an organized and clean work area in alignment with shop standards.
Adhere to all safety guidelines, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
2+ years of experience running CNC mills or CNC lathes, or a recent 2-year technical degree in machining.
At least 1 year of blueprint reading experience.
Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC machines, preferably Haas mills and lathes.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings.
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers for quality inspection.
Experience adjusting tools and offsets on CNC equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes.
Capability to perform multiple set-ups per day in a production environment.
Basic troubleshooting skills for machining and equipment issues.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Manual machining experience is a plus.
Familiarity with Haas CNC controls and programming adjustments.
Experience operating drill presses and other common shop equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and leadership.
Organizational skills to manage tools, fixtures, and workstations efficiently.

Safety is a priority, and steel-toe boots and safety glasses are required while on the shop floor.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Owatonna, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
