Salary Range $12.00 - $14.00 Hourly Position Type Part Time Job Shift Variable
Description
Under the direction of the Group Exercise Director/Healthy Living Director, the Pilates or Barre Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging classes that support the YMCA's mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The instructor creates a welcoming, inclusive environment for participants of all fitness levels while delivering high-quality programming.
Essential Functions
Plan and lead dynamic Pilates and/or Barre classes in alignment with YMCA standards and best practices.
Provide clear instruction, demonstration, and safe modifications for all fitness levels.
Ensure participant safety by monitoring form, offering corrections, and responding appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
Arrive prepared and on time; set up and return equipment to designated areas.
Build positive relationships with members and foster a supportive class environment.
Promote YMCA programs, events, and initiatives to encourage member engagement and retention.
Maintain required certifications and attend staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education as requested.
Assist in emergency situations following YMCA policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate attendance records as required.
Qualifications
Current nationally recognized Pilates and/or Barre certification (e.g., Pilates Mat, Comprehensive Pilates, Barre certification).
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Strong knowledge of anatomy, alignment principles, and safe movement progressions.
Previous group exercise teaching experience preferred.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lead and demonstrate exercises for 4560 minutes.
Ability to lift and move fitness equipment (up to 25 lbs).
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, reach, and perform exercises as needed for demonstration.
Work Environment
Indoor fitness studio setting.
May require early mornings, evenings, or weekend availability.
