Billing Clerk
The Billing Clerk provides clerical and administrative support to the Revenue Cycle department. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting claims, reviewing billing information for accuracy, generating patient statements, responding to billing inquiries, and following up on unpaid claims. This role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Job Duties:
Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance payors
Review billing information for accuracy (demographics, DOS, etc.)
Generate and send patient statements
Respond to patient and insurance billing inquiries
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims
Maintain billing records and documentation
Provide general administrative support to Revenue Cycle
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
12 years of billing, clerical, or healthcare experience preferred
Basic knowledge of insurance claims and billing processes
Experience with Epic or similar EHR systems preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Effective communication and customer service skills
Smart Goals:
Timely Claim Submission: Achieve 95% of claims submitted within 48 hours of charge entry, measured monthly.
Claim Follow-Up & Denial Resolution: Resolve or escalate 90% of unpaid or denied claims within 14 days, measured monthly.
Billing Accuracy & Data Integrity: Maintain claim error/return rate below 3% through accurate data entry and review, measured monthly.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role is primarily performed in an office/clinical administrative environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and data entry is required. The position involves regular communication via phone and in person with patients, insurance representatives, and staff. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching may be required, as well as the ability to lift up to 1015 pounds (e.g., files or office supplies). The role operates in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines, typically during standard business hours with occasional need for flexibility based on departmental needs.
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly Rate: $21.50

Occupational Risk for Exposure to TB:
There is an occupational risk for exposure to TB, as this position involves extensive community and patient contact. Employees in this role are required to comply with annual TB testing as part of workplace health and safety protocols. The only acceptable exceptions to this requirement are documented medical contraindications or religious objections. Employees who decline TB testing will be required to wear a mask when deemed necessary.
