Production Forklift Operator

Salary Range: $23/hour
The Position
The Forklift Operator position is responsible for distributing stands, wire, and other material as necessary to and from the production areas. This position is also responsible for weighing, and tagging finished product and transporting it to the various departments or staging them in the designated holding areas.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
Transports wire, stands, spools, and other materials as needed to various locations within the mill, and limited areas in the yard with a forklift.
Coordinates activities with production machine operators to ensure that raw materials arrive when required and finished product is removed from the various production areas in an efficient manner.
Operate a forklift and other machinery in a safe responsible manner.
Maintain good standards of housekeeping in general work area and observe and comply with all safety rules and regulations
Weigh finished products and move to respective department or staging areas.
Maintain organization of stock, and assist in inventory preparation
Maintain proper quality specifications as per Quality Assurance guidelines
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
Job Requirements
High School or Equivalent
Must be 18 years or older due to work environment and labor laws
Must be able to pass preemployment background, drug/alcohol, and physical screenings
Must be able to understand various tags and labels used in the mill,
Must be able to read and understand production schedule and production cards
Must be able to use bar code reader
Must be able to work independently, as a team, and be able to work with both internal and external customers
Ability to think strategically and problem solve
Must be able to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather conditions
Forklift/Material Handling experience
at least one year's experience
Some computer knowledge
to use scale
Available to work overtime and shift schedule of 12 days on 2 days off
Must join Union upon completion of 30 days of employment
Authorized to work for any employer in the United States of America
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions, and in a dusty environment around metals
Sight
hand and eye coordination, depth perception needed to operate forklift
Hearing
must be able to hear others and warning sounds of forklift and other heavy machinery
Speech
must be able to communicate effectively with others while working
Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and lift for long periods
frequent to constant
Must be able to squat, stoop, twist, climb, crawl, reach, grasp, and fine manipulation, operate foot controls, and work above shoulders occasional to constant
Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
Must be able to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and overhead crane
