Lifeguard & Swim Lesson Instructor - University of San Diego
Pay: $19.50/hr
Job Type: Seasonal / Part-Time
Location: University of San Diego (Mission Bay/Linda Vista)
The University of San Diego Campus Recreation department is seeking motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Lifeguard & Swim Lesson Instructors. POSITION OVERVIEW
This dual role involves both proactive lifeguarding and active swim instruction. You will monitor our 25-yard x 40-yard outdoor college pool and teach "Learn to Swim" levels to children ages 3-12.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Swim Instruction: Teach American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" levels (Pre-K through Level 6). Provide feedback to parents and evaluate student progress.
* Lifeguarding: Monitor pool activities, enforce safety guidelines, and respond to emergencies using ARC rescue procedures.
* Facility Care: Open/close the pool deck, manage equipment, and ensure the facility is clean and secure.
SCHEDULE & DURATION
* Summer (Main Season): 30-40 hours per week. Typical shifts are Mon-Thurs (9:45 AM - 7:15 PM) plus one weekend shift (Fri-Sun).
REQUIREMENTS
* Certifications: Current Lifeguard Certification (LGB) and CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer required.
* Physical: Ability to move 25 lbs and work in direct sunlight/outdoor elements.
* Skills: Proactive lifeguarding, strong communication with children/parents, and a team-player attitude.
* Preferred: WSI Certification or 1+ year of experience teaching youth swim lessons.
