Duties

Help

As an IT Cybersecurity Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

Coordinate with systems architects and developers, as needed, to provide oversight in the development of design solutions, system security controls, and countermeasures (including designing and developing new cybersecurity tools/technologies).
Conduct software, hardware, and systems development, deployment or engineering to develop new and refine/enhance existing technical capabilities, ensuring full integration with security objectives, principles, and processes.
Promote adoption of modern cloud and cybersecurity architectures that drive secure application development practices; implement secure cloud and networking solutions that meet Federal Zero Trust mandates.
Identify and recommend methods for incorporating promising technologies to meet organizational cybersecurity requirements.
Build practical solutions in full consideration of lifecycle of costs, acquisitions, program and projects, management, and budget.
Conduct risk analyses, feasibility studies, and/or trade-off analyses to develop, document, and refine functional requirements and specifications and develop and maintain technical security configuration baselines.

TOP SECRET . Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT : For the Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210 occupational series qualified (GS5-15) applicants must have Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;
Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; and uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to the basic requirement above, applicants must also demonstrate specialized experience described below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : To qualify, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12, in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:

Experience performing IT and/or cybersecurity work involving the development, integration, deployment, or operational support of enterprise systems and infrastructure (e.g., cloud, network, or platform environments), including applying information security principles and requirements such as access control, identity management, encryption, Zero Trust concepts, and other security controls to support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.
Experience conducting one or more of the following: risk assessments, feasibility studies, system or technology evaluations, and/or lifecycle cost and resource analyses.
Experience preparing written analyses, reports, or briefing materials, and coordinating or communicating with stakeholders to support decision-making and the implementation of IT, cybersecurity, or enterprise technology initiatives.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
