CNC Swiss Machinist / Swiss Machine Operator

This role focuses on operating CNC Swiss?type lathes to manufacture high?precision medical device components in a regulated, quality?driven environment. You will run production on modern Swiss equipment, hold extremely tight tolerances, and perform detailed in?process inspections while following documented FDA, ISO, and internal quality procedures. The position is well?suited for an experienced CNC Swiss professional who enjoys precision work, problem?solving at the machine, and contributing to reliable, life?impacting products.
Responsibilities
Operate CNC Swiss?type lathes with sliding headstock to produce medical device components to exact specifications.
Run production on Swiss machines such as Citizen, Tornos, Star, Tsugami, Miyano, or Hanwha equipment.
Monitor parts throughout the machining process to ensure tight tolerances at the micron and tenths level are consistently achieved.
Perform thorough in?process and final inspections using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality.
Make tool offset adjustments to compensate for tool wear and maintain part accuracy.
Adjust feeds and speeds to optimize part quality, tool life, and cycle time.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical prints, including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
Complete all required documentation accurately, including lot traceability records, inspection reports, and other quality paperwork.
Follow FDA, ISO, and internal quality procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
Utilize Fanuc or Mitsubishi controllers to set up and run CNC programs using G?code and M?code.
Support changeovers and setups or setup?assist activities on Swiss machines as needed.
Apply SPC and statistical process control methods to monitor and improve machining processes.
Participate in First Article Inspections (FAI) to validate new or revised parts.
Troubleshoot machining issues, including surface finish, dimensional variation, and tool performance.
Collaborate with team members and leads to maintain stable, efficient production and continuous improvement in a high?precision environment.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 3 years of experience operating CNC Swiss / Swiss?type lathes.
Proven experience in medical device, orthopedic, aerospace, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Ability to operate and run production on Swiss machines such as Citizen, Tornos, Star, Tsugami, Miyano, or Hanwha.
Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
Demonstrated ability to hold extremely tight tolerances at micron and tenths levels.
Hands?on experience making tool offset adjustments to maintain part accuracy.
Ability to adjust feeds and speeds to meet quality and productivity requirements.
Familiarity with Fanuc or Mitsubishi CNC controllers, including use of G?code and M?code.
Proficiency with precision inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and preferably optical comparators.
Experience following FDA, ISO, and internal quality procedures in a regulated production environment.
Comfort working with CNC programming concepts and machine operation on multi?axis equipment, including 4?axis and 5?axis capabilities where applicable.
Solid troubleshooting skills for machining processes, including setup, changeover, and production issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with medical?grade materials such as stainless steel (17?4, 316L), titanium, cobalt chrome, nitinol, and engineering plastics (PEEK, Delrin).
Experience in aerospace manufacturing is highly transferable and valued.
Exposure to SPC and statistical process control techniques for monitoring process capability and stability.
Familiarity with GD&T and its application in precision machining and inspection.
Experience with First Article Inspections (FAI) in a production environment.
Setup or setup?assist experience on CNC Swiss machines, including tooling, workholding, and program verification.
Knowledge of braiding, advanced CNC machining, or related precision manufacturing processes is beneficial.
Understanding of lot traceability requirements and documentation practices in regulated industries.
Ability to work effectively in a team?oriented, quality?focused production environment.

Daily work involves using precision inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and optical comparators, as well as applying SPC and other statistical tools. The facility is clean, organized, and safety?focused, with stable production work rather than high?mix, low?volume job shop conditions, providing a consistent and predictable workload in a professional manufacturing setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bartlett, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
