D-Shift Slitter Operator

The Slitter Operator sets up and operates slitter machines on a converting line to cut, slit, and prepare film and related materials according to detailed specifications. This role involves reading and interpreting bills of materials, performing precise machine set-ups and changeovers, monitoring quality using measuring tools, and handling finished rolls for shipment.
Responsibilities

Read and interpret the bill of materials to determine correct machine settings, materials, and production requirements.
Perform complete machine set-ups, including threading film into the slitter, setting blades to the specified width, and programming the machine for length, speed, and tension.
Set up the leader table with the proper tapes, leaders, and trailers, and retrieve the correct cores from inventory for each job.
Operate the slitter machine and converting line to process roll-to-roll materials, ensuring accurate slitting, cutting, and winding.
Monitor machine performance during production and make adjustments to speed, winding tension, and brake tension to maintain product quality and efficiency.
Respond to film breaks by safely stopping the machine, cutting broken film, and re-threading the machine to resume production.
Perform changeovers between jobs, including adjusting machine settings, blades, and materials to meet new specifications.
Conduct quality checks using calipers and other tools to verify dimensions, thickness, and overall product quality against standards.
Handle finished product by removing rolls from the machine, stacking them in appropriate containers, and preparing them for transfer to shipping.
Maintain a clean, organized work area around the machine and follow all facility safety and housekeeping standards.
Identify basic mechanical issues and perform first-level troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and communicate any issues affecting quality or output.
Essential Skills

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and/or experience in machine operation or manufacturing.
Ability to perform machine set-ups, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting on production equipment.
Capability to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis.
Experience using calipers or similar measuring tools to perform quality checks.
Comfort working with slitter machines, converting equipment, or roll-to-roll production processes.
Strong attention to detail when following bills of materials and production specifications.
Ability to work the D-shift schedule of 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Wednesday through Friday, with every other Saturday as part of the rotation.
Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and production guidelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior experience with slitting, roll-to-roll, or converting operations is a significant plus.
Experience with paper cutting, labeling, or film converting on converting lines is highly desirable.
Experience working with thin film materials is an advantage.
Familiarity with slitter operation, roll forming, or similar machine operation in a manufacturing environment.
Comfort working in a quality-focused manufacturing setting with an emphasis on accuracy and consistency.
Mechanically inclined mindset with an interest in learning and improving machine operation skills.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a comfortable, well-maintained production floor. The position operates on a D-shift schedule from 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Wednesday through Friday, with work every other Saturday. You will work on converting lines that perform paper cutting, labeling, film slitting, and roll-to-roll processing using slitter machines and related equipment. The dress code requires steel-toe boots, blue jeans and/or Cintas-style pants with no holes, and a solid-colored shirt; shorts are also permitted when they meet these guidelines. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient production while providing modern equipment and clear procedures to support daily operations.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hebron, KY.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $20.75 - $21.75/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
