Job Summary
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is a senior leader and key partner to the General Manager, responsible for driving execution, accountability, and alignment across the Events & Catering department. This role serves as the bridge between strategy and day-to-day operations, ensuring that departmental priorities translate into consistent, high-quality results across both planning and execution. The AGM directly oversees the Senior Planning Manager and the Senior Operations Manager, ensuring both functions operate cohesively to deliver exceptional event experiences. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong operational discipline, and a deep commitment to hospitality. The AGM is expected to anticipate needs, identify gaps before they impact execution, and continuously elevate both the guest experience and internal processes through innovation and thoughtful leadership.
Core Responsibilities
1. Department Leadership, Execution & Hospitality Excellence
Partner with the General Manager to operationalize departmental strategy, service model, and long-term vision
Champion a culture of hospitality that prioritizes client experience, responsiveness, and service consistency across all events
Maintain full visibility across the event lifecycle, ensuring seamless execution from planning through post-event follow-up
Lead by example in delivering a high-touch, hospitality-driven experience for clients and internal stakeholders
Step in to support or lead high-profile, complex, or sensitive events to ensure exceptional outcomes
2. Leadership Oversight & Team Accountability § Directly manage:
Senior Manager, Events & Catering Planning § Senior Operations Manager
Set clear expectations and hold leaders accountable for execution, service standards, and team performance
Coach and develop leaders to strengthen both operational excellence and hospitality mindset within their teams
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Partner on hiring, organizational design, succession planning, and performance management
3. Operational Excellence & Quality Control
Ensure consistent execution of Events & Catering standards, SOPs, and service expectations
Maintain a high bar for detail, ensuring planning accuracy translates flawlessly into operational delivery
Monitor performance through audits, reporting, and in-field observation
Identify breakdowns in workflow, communication, or execution and implement timely corrective actions
Reinforce disciplined planning, organization, and follow-through across all roles
4. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Drive innovation across planning and operations to enhance efficiency, scalability, and the overall client experience
Identify opportunities to improve workflows, tools, and service delivery models
Partner with leadership to pilot new ideas, offerings, or service enhancements
Encourage creative problem-solving and forward-thinking approaches within the team
Continuously evaluate processes and implement improvements that elevate both execution and experience
Additional Responsibilities
5. Business Performance & Financial Oversight
Support the General Manager in achieving financial targets, including revenue growth, labor management, and cost control
Oversee staffing strategies, scheduling efficiency, and resource allocation
Monitor key performance metrics and use data to inform decision-making
Ensure operational decisions balance financial responsibility with hospitality and service excellence
6. Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as the primary connector between Planning, Operations, Culinary, and other internal partners
Ensure alignment on event expectations, timelines, and execution strategies
Proactively resolve cross-functional challenges that may impact delivery or client satisfaction
Strengthen communication and collaboration across teams
7. Client Experience & Escalation
Maintain a consistently high standard of hospitality across all client interactions
Act as the escalation point for complex or high-impact client issues
Ensure all challenges are resolved quickly, professionally, and with a solutionsoriented approach
Support VIP and high-visibility events to ensure exceptional service delivery
8. Process Discipline & Organizational Standards
Ensure adoption and consistency of SOPs, tools, and planning frameworks
Drive accountability around timelines, documentation, and communication standards
Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable, sustainable solutions
Maintain structure and organization across a fast-paced, multi-event environment
