Overview

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Dermatologist to join the Department of Dermatology. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will be a board certified/board eligible Dermatologist with demonstrated clinical and/or scholarly achievement, a commitment to excellence, interest in teaching resident and students, and dedicated to advancing research and innovation. They will contribute to the Department’s vision while upholding the organization’s mission and values. The responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to patient care, research, and training residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate and graduate students.

The Division of Inpatient Dermatology is particularly interested in candidates with a strong interest in hospital-based dermatology . Faculty in this division manage high-acuity, complex medical dermatology cases within a large academic health system and work closely with dermatology residents and multidisciplinary teams.

Department Overview

The Department of Dermatology offers comprehensive dermatologic care serving Ohio and beyond. By joining our faculty, you will have excellent opportunities for advancement, while working with an exceptional and growing group of dermatologists. Faculty members provide outpatient dermatologic care with the option to participate in inpatient consults if desired. OSU dermatology allows physicians to pursue their passions in dermatology, including general, medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. You will have the flexibility to focus on general dermatology or explore interests in specialty and multi-disciplinary clinics. There are plenty of opportunities and support to pursue roles in leadership, education, and research for those that are interested. Each physician works with two scribes which improves clinic flow and work-life balance.

Inpatient Dermatology Program Highlights

  • Two general hospitals and five specialty hospitals within the health system
  • Staffing inpatient dermatology consult services alongside dermatology residents
  • Care of high-complexity medical dermatology and severe cutaneous disease

Faculty focus areas

  • Teledermatology: Participation in established outpatient-based tele dermatology services with opportunities for scholarly work using teledermatology-derived clinical data
  • Education: Teaching on inpatient consult services and teledermatology, with development of inpatient and complex medical dermatology curricula
  • Specialty Clinics: Infrastructure support for the development of specialty clinics, including a dedicated hospital follow-up clinic post-discharge and existing collaborations with bench researchers in wounds and vitiligo
  • Artificial Intelligence & Innovation: Opportunities to participate in clinical, educational, and research initiatives focused on the application of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in dermatology
  • Access & Equity: Initiatives focused on improving access to dermatologic care for underserved populations, including Clinica Latina and dedicated dermatology clinics through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Perform medical and surgical dermatologic procedures
  • Direct and participate in quality assessment and improvement activities
  • Opportunity to serve as preceptor and provide bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate & graduate students
  • Serve as a mentor and sponsor of residents, fellows, and faculty in the Department
  • Participate in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities
  • Conduct and provide clinical instruction, lectures, seminars, and related educational offerings, both within OSUWMC and at the regional and national level
  • Support clinical and translational research activities and innovation
  • Opportunity to serve as PI or Co-I in grants and/or clinical trials

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited residency program in dermatology required
  • MD or DO with or without other advanced degree (MS, PhD, etc.)
  • Board eligible/Board certification in Dermatology
  • Must possess or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio

Faculty Defined

  • Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
  • Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
  • Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
