
Battery Management Systems Engineer (Milwaukee)

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong BMS Verification Engineer to support the validation and verification of Battery Management Systems for automotive or energy storage applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing test plans, validating BMS algorithms and hardware functionality, and ensuring compliance with automotive and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute verification and validation (V&V) plans for Battery Management Systems (BMS).
Perform functional, integration, system-level, and regression testing of BMS hardware and software.
Validate battery-related algorithms including SOC (State of Charge), SOH (State of Health), cell balancing, thermal management, and protection strategies.
Create and review test cases, test procedures, and test reports.
Conduct HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), SIL (Software-in-the-Loop), and bench testing.
Perform CAN communication testing using tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar.
Analyze test data, identify root causes of issues, and work closely with development teams for resolution.
Support system-level validation including fault injection and safety testing.
Ensure compliance with automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and results.
Participate in design reviews and provide verification input during development phases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
3–8 years of experience in automotive verification and validation, preferably in BMS.
Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery systems and BMS architecture.
Experience with CAN communication and diagnostic protocols (UDS).
Hands-on experience with HIL systems (dSPACE, Vector, NI, or equivalent).
Familiarity with requirement management tools (DOORS, Polarion, etc.).
Strong knowledge of testing methodologies and defect tracking tools.
Experience in data analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or Excel.
