Assistant General Counsel
Location: Boone, NC.
Position Summary: The Assistant General Counsel position works in the Office of General Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel to leaders of Appalachian State University.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be admitted to the North Carolina bar or to another state bar and prepared to seek immediate admission in North Carolina within one year of employment. North Carolina State Bar membership in good standing, or licensure in good standing in another state on the date of initial employment and licensure to practice law in North Carolina within one year.
Preferred Qualifications
IT/ITS – related services;
Contract review and drafting (particularly for higher education or governmental clients);
Research, Intellectual Property, Sponsored Programs, and Regulatory Compliance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
High ethical standards, including strong work ethic, honesty, and integrity;
Ability to identify and resolve legal issues;
Commitment to support and fulfill university’s mission;
Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills;
Interpersonal, research, and analytical skills;
Reasoned judgment;
Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work;
Ability to supervise staff;
Combine legal considerations with program and policy objectives to develop practical solutions that meet client needs;
Word processing and related skills to create, edit, and publish legal memoranda, briefs, contracts, and other work products.
Position Details
Type: Full Time, Staff/Non-Faculty.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (may vary).
Hours: 40 per week.
Term: 12 months per year, 1.0 full-time.
VISA Sponsorship: Not available. Must be eligible to work and live in U.S.
Physical Demands: Must perform job duties with reasonable accommodations as needed.
