Sr. Estimator
WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC) is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead the development of accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for facilities-related projects within the energy sector. This role supports preconstruction strategy, bid execution, and project handoff while ensuring alignment with WHC Energy Services’ operational standards, safety culture, and financial objectives. The Senior Estimator serves as a subject‑matter expert, mentor to junior estimators, and key partner to operations, procurement, and project management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
Lead preparation of detailed conceptual, budgetary, and final estimates for facilities projects (e.g., terminals, compressor stations, plants, and related infrastructure).
Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope requirements, risks, and opportunities.
Develop and validate quantity takeoffs, labor productivity assumptions, equipment needs, and material pricing.
Ensure estimates incorporate WHC historical data, market conditions, subcontractor input, and risk contingencies.
Prepare bid summaries, value engineering options, and alternate pricing as required.
Participate in bid review meetings and present estimate assumptions to leadership.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Coordinate with Procurement to ensure alignment with approved vendors and sourcing strategies.
Analyze subcontractor scope gaps and overlaps to mitigate risk prior to bid submission.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Operations, Construction Management, Project Controls, and Safety teams during preconstruction.
Support project handoff meetings to ensure estimate integrity and scope clarity.
Provide estimating support for change orders, claims, and cost forecasts as needed.
Leadership & Mentorship
Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Estimators and Junior Estimators.
Support development and continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and procedures.
Promote consistency, accuracy, and best practices across all facilities estimates.
Risk, Compliance & Reporting
Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies during the estimating phase.
Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
Maintain organized estimate documentation for audit, review, and post‑project analysis.
Note: In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the company.
Position Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience
8+ years of estimating experience in facilities, industrial, or energy construction.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong understanding of facilities construction methods, materials, and cost drivers.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Hard Dollar, Sage Estimating, Heavy Bid, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
Proven ability to lead complex estimates and meet aggressive bid deadlines.
Working Conditions
This position is based in The Woodlands, TX. Travel to project sites is required. The role is field‑based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodation is required. The employee must be able to work a 6‑day on, 1‑day off shift with 10‑hour shifts for the duration of the project.
