How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Senior Advisor, in collaboration with the VP of Government and External Affairs, advances organizational legislative and advocacy goals through strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship building with elected officials, community leaders, and key partners. The role also supports planning, logistics, and execution of government and advocacy-related initiatives and events.

Job Description

Government Relations & Advocacy
Support development and execution of legislative and advocacy strategies aligned with organizational priorities.

Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative and regulatory activity at local, state, and federal levels.

Assist in developing strategies to address policy issues impacting the organization.

Engage with legislators, executive branch officials, and regulatory agencies as appropriate.

Participate in legislative committees and agency interactions as directed.

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management
Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and key stakeholders.

Support engagement efforts with Grasstops, Grassroots, and other advocacy groups.

Collaborate with internal leaders to strengthen stakeholder communication and alignment.

Represent the organization in community and professional settings as a brand ambassador.

Communications & Outreach
Assist in development of messaging and content for external-facing communications.

Support communication strategies to enhance awareness of organizational initiatives.

Coordinate follow-up and feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

Partnerships & Collaboration
Collaborate with educational institutions, business organizations, and industry groups (e.g., Virginia Tech, Radford University, community colleges, chambers of commerce, VHHA, AHA, AAMC, etc.).

Support cross-sector partnerships that advance organizational and community goals.

Event Planning & Execution
Assist in planning, logistics, and execution of government relations and advocacy events.

Professional Engagement
Maintain awareness of administrative rule-making processes and policy developments.

Participate in professional organizations and community activities relevant to the role.

Organizational Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional customer service and demonstrate respect, empathy, and professionalism.

Promote organizational culture of service excellence and teamwork.

Adhere to policies, procedures, ethical standards, and code of conduct.

Serve as a role model for organizational mission, vision, and values.

What We Require:

Education
Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, business, health policy, public policy, public affairs, public relations, or related field (required)

Master's degree in business, healthcare administration, public administration, or related field (preferred)

Experience
5-10 years of progressive experience in government, public administration, community affairs, or government relations

3-5 years of business experience

Experience with legislative and regulatory processes and government engagement

Skills & Competencies
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Political acumen and ability to navigate complex environments

Strong organizational and project management abilities

Facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills

Ability to work collaboratively across multiple levels of an organization

Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure

Additional Requirements
Ability to travel regularly, including overnight travel

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Proficiency with applied management technology
